Co-funded project
Energy efficiency upgrade of our plant
At its Avellino plant, Intertec Srl has carried out an integrated energy efficiency and energy saving programme covering production equipment, climate control, lighting and the building envelope, combined with a photovoltaic system for self-consumption. The project is co-funded by the European Union and the Campania Region under the Campania Regional Programme ERDF 2021-2027 (PR Campania FESR 2021-2027).
Objectives
Lower consumption, lower emissions, more clean energy
The project aims to achieve a lasting reduction in the plant's energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions — across more than 16,000 m² of production areas and about 2,000 m² of offices — by replacing outdated systems with high-efficiency technologies, phasing out natural gas for heating and covering a significant share of electricity demand with renewable energy generated on site.

Completed interventions
What we did
Line A — Efficiency of production systems and buildings
Power factor correction
Installation of a 600 kVAr automatic power factor correction system that raises the plant's power factor from about 0.71 to 0.95, reducing reactive energy drawn from the grid, line losses and the related penalties.
High-efficiency compressors
Replacement of the 55 kW fixed-speed air compressors with new-generation variable-speed models with inverter drives, which match power draw to the actual compressed-air demand.
Office building envelope insulation
New waterproofed and insulated warm roof and a new insulated ventilated façade on the office building: the thermal transmittance of these surfaces drops from about 1.9 to less than 0.2 W/m²K.
New climate control system
Decommissioning of the old natural gas boiler and installation of a VRF system with two high-efficiency heat pumps for the offices, complemented by infrared heaters that provide targeted heating to workstations in the production areas.
Building automation
Automatic control of indoor lighting and climate via timers and daylight, presence and motion sensors, so that systems and lights run only when and where they are needed.
LED relamping
Replacement of conventional lamps — indoor fluorescent tubes and outdoor vapour lamps — with low-consumption, long-life Smart LED luminaires.
Line B — Renewable energy generation
500 kWp photovoltaic system
Rooftop photovoltaic system with high-efficiency monocrystalline modules, without storage, whose output is entirely used for the plant's self-consumption: an estimated generation of about 600,000 kWh per year.
Expected results
The impact of the interventions
- ~460 t
- of CO₂ avoided every year
- ~126,000 Sm³
- of natural gas saved every year
- ~600 MWh
- of solar energy self-generated every year
- 0.95
- power factor after correction (from 0.71)
Figures estimated in the project energy audit, based on actual consumption data. The results actually achieved will be published on this page at the end of the monitoring period.
Local impact
Benefits beyond the company
Lower emissions in the Pianodardine industrial area: phasing out the natural gas boiler and generating solar power reduce CO₂ emissions and combustion-related local pollutants.
Better working conditions for the people who work at the plant every day, thanks to efficient climate control, targeted workstation heating and high-quality LED lighting.
A more competitive and sustainable manufacturing sector in Campania: lower energy costs strengthen Intertec's 100% Italian production and local employment, contributing to the EU's energy transition goals.
